The Boise State University Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs upon the recommendation of the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography.  This one-year program qualifies graduates to write the Abdomen, Obstetrics & Gynecology and Physics & Instrumentation credentialing exams offered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).  Graduates are also qualified to write the Sonography credentialing exam offered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).  Both credentialing agencies, ARRT and ARDMS, assess the ethical standard of all applicants.   Criminal convictions may prevent the applicant from taking the certification examinations.  Applicants should refer to each agency's website for clarifying information.  The ARRT web site is http://www.arrt.org; the ARDMS website is http://www.ardms.org.

The Boise State Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program requires that the applicant possess an Associate degree or higher in a direct patient care field, and be registered and/or licensed in good standing with the appropriate state and/or national agency.  Preference will be given to Radiologic Technologists.  Applicants may be completing the final semester of their direct patient care education at the time of application.   Acceptance into the Sonography Program will be contingent upon successfully passing the appropriate national examination by August 15 of the year accepted.  Added consideration during the application process will be given to those applicants that have completed their university core elective requirements and/or are degree seeking.  A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above is required to be considered for this program.  Completed applications, transcripts, and reference forms must be received in the Department of Radiologic Sciences at Boise State University no later than March 1 to be considered for the program each fall. Application materials will be reviewed and selected applicants will be invited for an interview.  Candidates will be notified about their selection status in the program by April 15.  Classes begin with the normal fall academic semester.  Sonography certificate and bachelor degree curriculum and prerequisites can be reviewed using the hyperlink below.

The Sonography Program is one calendar year long, consisting of classroom and clinical education.  The student is responsible to provide transportation to and from the clinical sites.  A schedule of the current university enrollment fees, financial aid and student housing information can be obtained at http://www.boisestate.edu or by calling the New Student Information Center at 1-800-632-6586 (in Idaho), or 1-800-824-7017 (outside Idaho).  An estimated expense sheet for program participation is available on request.  Candidates for the program must complete all non-core prerequisites before entering the program.  All program participants will be submit to a criminal background check at their own expense.  Information from the background check deemed to be detrimental to the care of patients will result in dismissal from the program.  Participants will also demonstrate evidence of an annual PPD test, a positive Rubella/Rubeola and Varicella titre and a current annual CPR for healthcare workers certification before beginning their clinical education.
