The Radiologic Sciences Program is dedicated to providing present and future medical imaging technologists an educational experience with a solid professional knowledge base augmented with
·
       writing skills,
·
       computer literacy,
·
       interdisciplinary educational experiences,
·
       multicultural/multiethnic appreciation,

Graduates will be awarded an Associate of Science Degree and qualify for the ARRT credentialing examination.

A Radiologic Technologist utilizes independent judgment to apply knowledge and skills to successfully obtain a diagnostic imaging study while maintaining quality patient care and minimizing radiation exposure.

The three-year Associate of Science Degree consists of a prerequisite freshman year (open to any student admitted to BSU) and a two-year professional component (sophomore and junior years).  Students may complete the prerequisite freshman year and all core courses at another academic institution and transfer to Boise State University for the Radiographer Program.  Due to the limited space in the affiliate clinical sites, only 24 students per year can be accepted into the professional phase.

Students wishing admission into the professional phase must submit an A.S. Radiologic Sciences Program Admission Application and three References by February 15th, 4:00 pm (or Friday before, if weekend) of the application year.  This application will be available in October.  Continuation into the professional phase of the program is contingent upon:

Cumulative GPA must be greater than 2.40 to be considered for candidacy

Prerequisite GPA must be greater than 2.60 with a minimum of 14 credits completed by the application deadline (C- grade for prerequisite courses will only be acceptable for 2007 application year; C- will not be considered an acceptable grade for a prerequisite course after that time. Grade acceptance for general university core not required in the prerequisite year will follow the BSU policy). Prerequisite GPA will be determined using the +/- standards according to BSU policy.

Students must prove minimal technical competency by passing the CIS 104 placement test or equivalent

Applications will be accepted from students with only one remaining prerequisite to complete in the summer, but preference will be give to those students who have completed the required prerequisites by the end of the BSU spring semester of application.

Acceptance is conditional on results of required Criminal Background Check.

During the sophomore and junior years, students will take academic courses on campus in addition clinical education courses at various major acute care and ambulatory care agencies in the Treasure Valley, Emmett and Ontario, OR.  This type of integrated program is beneficial for students to gain essential knowledge and skills required to become a competent radiologic technologist.  In addition, a ten-week summer clinical rotation is required between the sophomore and junior years.

The program is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) and the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU).  When all requirements for the Associate Degree are completed, the student will be eligible to take the national certification examination administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).  Upon successful completion of this examination, students become a Registered Radiologic Technologist - R.T.(R).

Students may complete the prerequisite freshman year and all core courses at another regionally accredited academic institution and transfer to Boise State University for the Radiographer Program (Regional Equivalents to Radiologic Sciences' Pre-requisite Classes).  More information on the associate and baccalaureate degree requirements can be obtained from the Department. It is essential that interested students meet with an academic advisor.  Please call 208-426-1996 or e-mail radsci@boisestate.edu to schedule an appointment.

Students can continue for an additional year to complete their baccalaureate degree requirements.  There will be an additional application and admission process for the clinically based baccalaureate emphases of Computed Tomography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
